How Does Lumenis Laser Hair Removal Work?
The Lumenis laser method of hair removal produces a beam of highly concentrated light that is absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicle. During the procedure, the laser pulses for a fraction of a second, long enough to heat up the hair and significantly impede the follicle’s ability to re-grow. With a series of Lumenis laser hair removal treatments, one can expect approximately 80% hair reduction, with better results and fewer complications that at home laser hair removal methods.
Depending on the area to be treated, the length of a laser hair removal treatment may last anywhere from a few minutes to over an hour. It is important to know that while all of the hairs in an active growth phase (referred to as anagen phase) are affected by the laser, and hair removal is a process that requires multiple treatments because all hairs are not in this phase at the same time. Several Lumenis treatments will be necessary to achieve more permanent laser hair removal.
Side effects, if any, are minor, but leave this approach to the professionals rather than attempting at home laser hair removal! While some patients may experience some discomfort, most tolerate the Lumenis laser hair removal procedure well. When treating more sensitive areas of the body, a topical numbing agent may be applied at our office.
The appearance of the treated area immediately following laser hair removal treatment will vary from patient to patient depending on the extent of the procedure and skin type. They may include redness and swelling around the hair follicle, which actually indicate that the follicle has responded to the treatment.
