Sclerotherapy Video

This is an in office treatment used to eliminate “spider veins” – tiny purple and red veins on the surface of the skin. Using a micro-needle, a special medication is injected into the unsightly vessels causing them to close and ultimately fade and disappear. There is minimal to no discomfort with this treatment and no downtime.

What are spider veins?

Spider veins, known in the medical world as telangiectasias, are small, thin veins that lie close to the surface of the skin. Although these super-fine veins are connected with the larger venous system, they are not an essential part of it.

Spider veins typically do not cause discomfort and are rarely a medical problem. Rarely patients describe a burning feeling or stinging along the spider veins.

What causes spider veins?

Spider veins are almost always inherited. The risk of getting spider veins is greater if your parents are affected. Other factors that may aggravate the problem include pregnancy, hormonal shifts, weight gain, sun exposure and activities that require prolonged sitting or standing.

How are treatments for spider veins performed?

Since spider veins are more superficial and smaller in diameter, the treatments are less invasive. Sclerotherapy is performed with a tiny 32 gauge needle used to inject a safe solution into the spider veins that will cause them to collapse, shrink and disappear. Sclerotherapy is the most effective treatment option for spider veins.
